He was one of God's loyal angels that fought with his army against the rebellion made by Lucifer. After Lucifer's defeat, God's Army of angels would return to Heaven but Pyriel would remain behind on Earth where he would wait until he would rise again and usher in a complete act of genocide against the "monkeys" which was the term given to Humans.
At the appointed time, Pyriel was challenged by the Nephilim Danyael and the two battled. The Angel of Genocide would prove to be the better combatant even when a spear was sent through his body, Pyriel remained strong until a bolt of lightning struck the spear and weakened him.
At this point, Danyael would transform his spear's tip into a hook which removed Pyriel's heart and ended the threat posed by him. In retrospect you might even believe that part 2 was a brave underachiever that failed to deliver on purpose, because it was only meant as a bridge between 1 and 3. But let's not get carried away.
